VAMPIRE BILL AND QUEEN SOPHIE-ANNE IN HER SHELL ENCRUSTED DAY/POOL ROOM

I was looking for a good reason to talk about my favorite show on this blog and now I've finally found one!

HBO's smash hit drama series TRUE BLOOD, created and produced by Alan Ball, is based on a popular series of Southern Vampire Mystery novels by Charlaine Harris. The show focuses on the relationship between Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress who falls in love with 200 year old vampire, Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer). The show is currently in its third season.

During the last few episodes of the second season, new character, Sophie - Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana (played by Evan Rachel Wood) emerged. Scenes with the Queen took place at her Louisiana estate in her magnificent SEASHELL ENCRUSTED DAY/POOL ROOM.

The talented artist who designed the shell encrusted interior of the day/pool room is Scarlet Abbott

In September 2009, in an exclusive interview with THE VAULT - True Blood fan site, Suzuki Ingerslev, True Blood's production designer, revealed the estate (shown above) used for the vampire queen's Louisiana abode was actually an existing property located in Malibu, California. Ingerslev describe the interior of the estate, the entry way and the pool room as "breathtaking and exquisite." Statues, chandleliers, chair rails and ceilings were all adorned with mixed varieties of seashells and corals.

Ingerslev further revealed, the existing architecture of the estate as well as the actual owners mother-of-pearl inlay furniture (only replacing the cushions) was used for the show. In addition, shell artist BEATRIZ VALIENTE was commissioned to create the lovely white shell encrusted planters (seen in the above photos) to add to the decor of the day/pool room.

  4. It's sad to see that the true artist here goes unrecognized. The artist who did the interior is a woman by the name of Scarlet Abbott. scarletabbott.com. She designed all the wall treatments, the frescoes, the encrusted chandeliers and statues. Also the mirror and floor inlays and bathroom treatments. She had a crew working on the project for months. She even spec'ed out the furniture. I would love to see her get the recognition she deserves.
